On 25 March 2025, the Queensland Government announced delivery of a seamless public transport network 'The Wave.' 'The Wave' includes heavy passenger rail from Beerwah to Birtinya interchanging with a Metro service to Sunshine Coast Airport via the Maroochydore CBD.

Three major projects will facilitate delivery of 'The Wave', these include:

• Direct Sunshine Coast Rail Line
• Sunshine Coast Metro
• Mooloolah River Interchange Upgrade.

Following this announcement, an industry briefing is now planned to provide further information on each of these 3 major projects.
